Name: Kami Nagato D.O.B. // Age: August 23, 1995 // 14 years Schooling: Fourth year at Insula School of Magic Wand: 11.25" , Rosewood, Unicorn Tail, John Drell [maker] Pet: Male Ragdoll [cat], calico markings, 4 years, "Kuma"
Appearance: Kami looks like a typical teenaged Japanese girl; shiny, perpetually straight ebony locks, pale skin, almond-shaped caramel eyes. Like many girls her age, Kami has already reached her full height; she stands at a decent five feet, three inches. Obviously shorter than her American schoolmates, the girl is actually taller than her mother and aunt, both of whom stand at five feet even. When not dressed in her school clothes and robes, Kami is usually seen wearing capris of varying colours, flip-flops, and tank tops. On rainy or cooler days, she will replace her capris and tank tops with jeans and t-shirts. Her flip-flops, however, have a semi-permanent spot on her feet. She wears vibrant eye-make up, probably the most distinctive part of her appearance. Kami has an obsession with earrings, and has multiple piercings per ear; her lobes usually sport dangly earrings, sometimes matched, sometimes not. Her cartilages sport studs or small rings, two on her left, and three on her right.
History: Kami was born in Yokohama, Japan, located seventeen miles outside the capital city of Tokyo. Her mother and father are Yuki and Kano Nagato, respectively -- both muggles, but vaguely familiar with the Wizarding World. When Kami was born, she exhibited early signs of magical ability; Yuki's sister, Rena, had also exhibited similar signs during her childhood so Yuki knew what was happening. Both muggles felt badly equipped to raise a witch, considering that neither of them had much experience with wizards. Until Kami reached the age of five years, Yuki and Kano tried their best to let her know as much as they did about a world so vastly different from their own. On Kami's fifth birthday, Rena stopped by to visit. She offered to take Kami as her ward, to raise her in a wizarding environment with herself and her husband. The catch? Rena lived in the United States, in a small town called Buena Park, located in Southern California. While Kano and Yuki were saddened to let their only daughter leave, the two parents felt it was in Kami's best interest. The next day, the young witch was packed, and on a muggle airplane to California.
For six years, Kami lived as happily as possible with her aunt, and her husband, Jin Takahashi. Both adults were born and raised in Japan, having attended Kotodama Institute of Magic for their wizard schooling. While Jin worked in a muggle field -- computer programming -- and Rena stayed home, both were adept at magic and taught Kami as much as possible about her developing powers. Both Jin and Rena, while fluent in English, were more comfortable speaking Japanese; as a result, Kami became uncomfortable speaking in English. She was able to, albeit with a heavy accent.
Due to her birthdate, Kami was unable to attend school when she turned ten. When she turned eleven, Kami received a letter of acceptance for Insula School of Magic. She wasn't too excited, her aunt having forewarned her that it would happen. However, it was her first time off the main land since she moved to California, and the trip to Catalina was somewhat of an adventure.
Kami's first year at school wasn't too eventful; she plodded through the few classes, ranking about the high-middle of her class. In her second year, she chose to be a part of Alpha Theta Delta, their hardworking and loyal attributes appealing to her. Again through her second year, Kami ranked in the upper-middle bracket among her classmates. Her third year passed similarly, without any major events. Even in Art Club -- which she had been a member of since her second semester of her first year -- she remained in the background, her art shining through but without her being in the spotlight.
Her fourth year is about to begin; Rena has been trying to convince Kami to make some friends, to be more social. The girl doesn't know if she can, but has promised to try.
Personality: Most people would peg Kami as a shy person; the truth is, she's socially awkward. She's adept at making polite conversation, but has never had a true friend other than her pet cat, Kuma. She's a determined young girl, though not too fond of studying. She does her best, however, and can often be seen drawing or with her nose buried in a book. In accordance with her mostly traditional Japanese upbringing, Kami is very reserved around males, averting her eyes and deferring to their judgment. On the few occasions she smiles or giggles in public, she covers her mouth with her hand or sleeve. In reality, Kami is a very lonely little girl who lacks the social graces required to make friends.
