Name: Adam Nathaniel Loughton
D.O.B. // Age: June 22, 1993 // 16
Schooling: Insula School of Magic, 7th Year
Current Job: Student
Wand: 11 3/4 in. Oak and Ashwinder Ash
Pet: N/A
Appearance: Adam has just recently hit what will probably the last of his growth spurts, and now stands at nearly six feet. He is lean, with broad shoulders and well-built muscles from his years as a Defender. His skin is pale, and he has ash blond hair that he keeps cut short but never fails to curl on his neck and around his ears. Adam can’t do anything with it, and it annoys him to no end. His eyes are a gorgeous deep green. When not at Insula and in uniform, Adam’s usual attire is jeans and a t-shirt, and usually stays away from pink, purple, and green, though he’ll wear light yellow in occasion. Overall, Adam is a pretty good-looking guy, with an infectious smile if you can get him to come out of his shell.
History: Adam Nathaniel Loughton was born at the end of June to two half bloods named Maryanne and Daniel Loughton, both former alumni of Insula – one from Sigma Kappa Delta and the other Pi Lamda Zeta. They were not rich, but comfortable, and it suited them fine. He was the third of four children – three boys and one girl. His older brother, Robert, was five years his senior, followed two years later by Amelia. Three years after that, Adam was born, followed five year later by another boy, Justin. Adam grew up in the shadow of his older siblings. Home-schooled by a private tutor, both showed a penchant for schoolwork. He grew up hearing his parents tell both of them how great they were, though what really interested him were his sister’s skills on a broom. He’d watched her easily beat her older brother in every mach Quodpot match.
When he was five, he got his first broom – a hand-me down from his sister. In that moment, he knew what he wanted to do for the rest of his life – ride a broom. He joined the mach Quodpot matches with his two older siblings in a year, although of course, they were ordered to take it easy. Adam tried Keeper, as well Forward, but neither suited him, but he found that he was a good Defender, and the older, he got, the better. The year he began playing Quodpot with his older siblings, his brother, Robert, went to Insula, and chose his mother’s dorm, Sigma Kappa Delta. His older sister, Amelia, followed three years later. In his fifth year, Robert became a Resident, and a member of the Student Body Government. The next year was Adam’s first.
He was nervous, and felt as if there was no point in going. His brother was top in his class and his sister was going to try out for the Quodpot team and make it. There was no doubt about that. She had been a Reserve member of the year before, and she would be an actual member this year. He was right, and his spirits lowered. On top of it all, he didn’t fit in with either his brother or sister’s dorms. Alpha Theta Delta was for him, though no one his family had ever chosen that dorm. He quickly began to enjoy that dorm, though, and his best subject was by far Defense Against the Dark Arts. He also struck up a slow but steady friendship his dorm mate, Alex Walton. The year after that was his brother’s last, and Adam was the only one that was shocked when he was out played by an extremely slim margin in Quodpot tryouts by a fifth year for the only Defender position.
Adam became depressed. Even if he had made the Quodpot team, his sister was still smarter than him, though not as smart as their brother. He’d never get as good as his older siblings… His wish to try was granted when, as a Reserve Defender, he was allowed to play in a match when the fifth year was knocked out after a poor performance in Alpha Theta Delta’s first match. Adam outperformed the older student, and was given his spot. The older student begged for another chance, but was denied. It was clear that he couldn’t handle the pressure, and that the Captain had been wrong not to give it to a younger talented student. Adam showed in the following match as well how good he was on the field, expressing an aggressiveness and confidence, despite his smaller stature, that seemed odd for someone so young. He also enjoyed his shocked Student Body President brother and Quodpot Star sister.
The next year, Robert was not there, and went on to the Ministry, and once again, he played against his sister, though she was a Forward, and he a Defender. Nevertheless, he never wasted an opportunity to help the Sigma Kappa Delta’s lose. The year after went similarly. Adam’s grades didn’t change, but he got better with each match, each year. However, the year after that Adam felt more pressure when Amelia was made Captain of the Sigma Kappa Delta Quodpot Team. He never faltered in a match, but he felt constant pressure to try to beat one of his siblings at something. It was his sister’s last year, though; although he knew the pressure to make his parents as proud of him as they were of his siblings wouldn’t go away. What he didn’t know was that he his parents were proud, though no matter how many times they reminded him, he failed to listen. He also doesn’t know his younger brother, Justin, who choose Pi Lamda Zeta dorm, although braver than himself, feels the same as him.
Adam is going on to seventh year now. He was not made Resident before his fifth year, due to his overly shy nature off the Quodpot field and lack of good grades. Even his sister hadn’t been a Resident, something that does make him feel better. He wasn’t made Quodpot Captain last year, either, losing to a capable Eighth year. He made decent grades in his WAT's, receiving good marks in Defense Against the Dark Arts, Charms, Transfiguration, and Arithmancy. He has dated a few girls over the course of his years at Hogwarts, but did not have a serious relationship until meeting Salenia White of Phi Beta Gamma dorm. Most girls don’t understand his love of Quodpot, prefer who is on the field verses who he is off, or both. That wasn’t true of Salenia, though she broke up with him in April. He is still friends with his dorm mate, Alex, though, and their friendship is going on six years strong.
This year, Adam waits impatiently, and hopes with every fiber of his being that he’ll get Quodpot Captain this year now that the old Captain is gone. He fears he’ll lose it to an older student. He does have one-up on his sister – making the team as a Second Year instead of a Third, but he’d like to have one more and make Quodpot Captain as a Seventh year instead of a Eighth. He fears if he doesn’t get it this year, he won’t get it at all, but he’s beginning to care less, as he’s been recently made Captain of the first ever Quidditch team for Alpha Theta Delta dorm, and plans on being one of their first Beaters That’s something his sister will never be able to say.
Personality: Adam is a very loyal person. While it’s not easy for him to make friends, once you have, you have a friend for life. He never goes back on his word. He’s normally very shy and self-conscious. He doesn’t speak out, and has trouble talking to girls… especially girls he likes. He will open up eventually, but it does take him a little while to warm up to people. He’s far from stupid, though he doesn’t apply himself in school as much as he should. In the classroom, he does just fine, but when it comes to homework, Adam never ceases to fall short of expectations. He does what he can to get decent grades, but his heart is never with schoolwork. On the Quodpot or Quidditch field, however, he’s a completely different person. Confident and aggressive on field, he’ll work as hard as it takes to win.
