{ i m a g e . u r l s } Does anyone know what Hotlinking is? In short, hotlinking is taking an image from a site and using the URL provided to link the image onto another site to display. Hotlinking not only affects the site you take the image from, but is also an illegal practice. Note that it is only 'hotlinking' if the image is DISPLAYED using the provided URL. Posting the URL itself (in a post or in your sig) is fine, as long as the image is not displayed.
More information can be found HERE: CLICK ME
Other terms for hotlinking are eeching, direct linking or bandwidth theft.
Now, how to go around this? You need to upload your images to a free image server such as Photobucket, TinyPic, or Image Shack. These image hosts are all free.
Remember: { N O . H O T L I N K I N G ! } Not Avatars, not Signature Images, not In-Post images. THIS INCLUDES direct-links from deviantArt.com! Repeated offenses will result in disciplinary action.
I've talked to one of the head staff members of the Proboards company, and he's informed me that HOTLINKING IS A TERMS OF SERVICE VIOLATION. As such, any incidents of hotlinking can result in the immediate deletion of this forum. As such, any hotlinked images WILL BE DELETED WITHOUT NOTICE, to prevent deletion of our site.
{ A V A T A R . S I Z E S } Other than no hotlinking, the MAXIMUM avatar size is 100x100 (100 pixels wide, 100 pixels high). If, in the future, we decide it's an asset to allow bigger sizes, we will.
{ S I G N A T U R E . S I Z E S } Other than no hotlinking, all signatures must be NO BIGGER than 120,000 square pixels. To arrive at square pixels, multiply the length of your image by the width. The result is your square pixel size. Anything larger will be deleted by a Staff member. Repeated offenses will result in disciplinary action. Additionally, signatures are to be no more than 500 pixels WIDE. Anything wider stretches our boards.
{ I N - P O S T . I M A G E S } Other than no hotlinking, In-Post Images should be NO WIDER than 500 pixels. Images wider than this amount will be automatically changed into a link. The reason for this width-restriction is to avoid stretching the threads. Disciplinary action will not usually be taken, unless the offense is repeated without end.
